Cathodic Protection Technician
Location: Huntington, WV (Travel Required)
Employment Type: Full-Time
Pay Range: (based on experience)
Expected Hours: Minimum 40 hours per week

Position Overview:

C.J. Hughes Construction is seeking a skilled and motivated Cathodic Protection (CP) Technician to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will have experience in installing, troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing cathodic protection and AC mitigation systems. This role requires strong technical knowledge, a commitment to safety, and a willingness to travel for project assignments. Candidates should be eager to expand their skillset through industry certifications and hands-on fieldwork to support the longevity and protection of underground infrastructure systems.

Key Responsibilities:

Install and maintain Cathodic Protection (CP) and AC mitigation systems

Apply protective coatings and perform exothermic welding and pin brazing

Conduct CP potential surveys, troubleshooting, and system diagnostics

Install and maintain rectifier interruption systems and data loggers

Perform Close Interval Surveys (CIS), Direct Current Voltage Gradient (DCVG), and Alternating Current Voltage Gradient (ACVG) surveys

Operate pipeline locators and utilize tools such as Pipeline Current Mapper (PCM) or Stray Current Mapper

Record and analyze CP data, including soil resistivity and interference testing

Take GPS coordinates using Trimble or similar devices and document all field activities accurately

Perform casing short and isolation testing, as well as current requirement testing

Comply with all safety procedures and reporting requirements

Qualifications:

Required:

High School Diploma or equivalent

Valid U.S. driver’s license and reliable transportation

Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data entry

Strong written and verbal communication skills

AMPP Cathodic Protection Level 1 certification

Preferred:

Military or college technical training background

AMPP Cathodic Protection Level 2 certification

Previous experience in pipeline corrosion control and AC mitigation

Ability to interpret electrical testing results and data logs

Familiarity with field testing equipment and instrumentation

Additional Requirements:

Must be able to work both in the field and office environments

Willingness to travel as needed for job site assignments

Must be able to relocate to or reliably commute to Huntington, WV
